🔨 Shaped By Service. Built For All. 🔨

Give Local 757

Since 2009, Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads has believed in one simple truth: when young people serve their community, they are shaped into the leaders their community needs. We engage youth ages 11–18 in team-based service that builds real skills, real empathy, and real impact — one project at a time.

6,199 youth volunteers. 120,000+ hours served. Fifteen years of building Hampton Roads.

This Give Local 757, we're asking you to join the Blueprint. Every gift adds to what we're building together.

WHAT GETS BUILT

🔨 Every project shapes two things at once.

When a young person shows up to a YVCHR service project, something gets built for the community — and someone gets shaped within it.

That's not an accident. It's the model. Every YVCHR experience is structured, team-based, and rooted in a service-learning framework that goes deeper than volunteering. Youth don't just complete a task — they learn why it matters, who it helps, and how their effort connects to a stronger community.

What our teams build:

  • 🛏 Beds for children who sleep on floors
  • 🍱 Meals for food-insecure neighbors
  • 🌿 Restored trails and green spaces
  • 🐾 Care for animals in need
  • 🔬 STEAM-based projects that spark curiosity and connection

What gets built in every young person:

  • Leadership and communication skills
  • Empathy and civic responsibility
  • Confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving
  • A lifelong ethic of service

HOW THE BUILD WORKS

Every YVCHR project follows the same three-part framework - where service shapes they community and the youth who serve it:

🤝 Show up as a team

Youth work in structured teams — not alone, not anonymously. Every project is a collaboration, and every young person has a role.

🌱 Serve with purpose

Projects address real, unmet community needs. Youth learn who they're helping, why it matters, and what their effort actually changes - turning service into something that lasts.

💡 Reflect on who you are becoming

After every project, teams reflect together. What did we build? Who did we impact? What did we learn? How are we different? That reflection is what transforms an afternoon of service into a lifetime of leadership.
