Oliver and Anne's Youth Fundraiser

I'm not just fundraising for Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads because I work here. I'm fundraising because I've watched this mission change my own child.

My son Oliver has logged 78 hours of service with YVCHR — and I've seen the change in him through each of these projects. He has baked Valentine's cookies for first responders, packed lasagnas for families in need, cleaned beaches, served fresh food to neighbors facing hunger, spent a full week at Summer of Service building, planting, and showing up for his community, and most recently, he's become a buddy at Champions Baseball — showing up for athletes with disabilities and discovering something powerful in the process.

Oliver doesn't just volunteer. He is shaped by it.

I see it in how he talks about the people he meets at projects. I see it in the way he shows up — ready, engaged, and genuinely caring about what he's doing. That's not something I taught him at home. That's what YVCHR built in him, one project at a time.

This Give Local 757, I'm raising $1,000 — the cost to engage 4 youth in a full year of service-learning — because every young person in Hampton Roads deserves what Oliver has had: the opportunity to serve, to grow, and to become someone their community needs.
