Kelsey's YVC GL757 Fundrasier

My name is Kelsey Fore, and I am a second-year student at Christopher Newport University. I am proud to serve as a Bonner Service Scholar and as a Team Leader with Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads (YVCHR), a role that has truly shaped who I am since my freshman year.

From my very first project, I saw something powerful: young people showing up, not because they had to, but because they wanted to make a difference. Since then, I have had the privilege of leading youth from across the Peninsula through service experiences that go far beyond volunteering. I have watched quiet students find their voice, unsure teens step into leadership, and groups of young people realize that they are capable of creating real, lasting change in their own communities.

YVCHR is not just about service hours, it’s about transformation. It’s about giving young people the chance to step outside of themselves and discover who they are, what they care about, and how they can make an impact. It’s about teaching life and work skills that will stay with them long after the project ends.

I’ve seen firsthand how one opportunity can change everything for a young person. One project can spark confidence. One connection can inspire purpose. One moment can shape a future.
