Mission: Demonstrate the role Chesapeake Bay Watermen have played in shaping our nation. We provide historical displays, exhibits, crafts and methods of their trade, and a look into their lives

With only 2 full-time employees, nearly every dollar donated directly supports education programs

The Watermen's Museum offers 13 different school and civic groups educational field trips. And, we conduct summer children's programs, such as Pirate, Archaeology, Boatbuilding, Nature Explorer, Maritime Explorer, All-About-boats, and Maritime Trades camp programs. Our Camp Programs were recognized as the 2018 Peninsula Gold Award recipients by the readership of Coastal Virginia Magazine. We were also awarded Best Small Museum by Chesapeake Bay Magazine. We have a volunteer team that operates our Chesapeake Bay boat building program, constructing and refurbishing boats ranging from a two-person skiff to a colonial gunboat.
Our gift shop carries a variety of nautically-themed clothing, books, jewelry, home decor, and much more.
Our festivals, monthly events and annual events are always jam-packed and fun. Festivals, Special and Annual events include: Yorktown and the Civil War, Yorktown Pirate Invasion, Music Jamboree Concerts, Yorktown Military Appreciation and Battle of the USRC Surveyor Anniversary, annual Beer Festival, Annual Oyster Roast, Annual Yorktown Folk Festival, Annual York River Maritime Heritage Festival, Chili Cook-off, and viewing the December Lighted Boat Parade. monthly activities include music, dance, and storytelling.
The Museum also offers rentals of its Carriage House, Events Tent and Deck, and our Beachfront for corporate and private special events, weddings and receptions.
