Hello, I’m Charles “Chuck” Holden, President of the Hampton Newport News Achievement Foundation, and I support Give Local 757 because I’ve seen, personally and professionally, the power of mentorship and youth development to change the trajectory of a life.

As a young man, I faced uncertainty about my future and the challenges that come with limited direction. My path began to shift during my time at Norfolk State University and through my military service. Along the way, I encountered mentors who invested in me, men who held me accountable, encouraged my growth, and refused to let me settle for less than my potential. Their guidance didn’t just help me succeed; it gave me purpose, discipline, and a vision for what my life could become.

That experience is why I am so deeply committed to developing our youth today. Too many young people are navigating critical years without the structure, exposure, and mentorship needed to guide them toward productive, fulfilling careers. Through programs like Guide Right, Kappa League, scholarships, athletics, and community outreach, our Foundation works to equip young men with the tools, values, and support systems they need to succeed, not just in school, but in life.

Mentorship matters. It builds confidence, reinforces accountability, and opens doors that many young people don’t even know exist. When we invest in youth development, we are not just helping individuals, we are strengthening families, building leaders, and creating a more resilient community.
