United is the Way to a Thriving Community!

United Way of the Virginia Peninsula is dedicated to strengthening our community’s resilience and advancing health, youth opportunity, and financial security. We mobilize our community to action so that all can thrive. Together, we create Pathways Out of Poverty for our neighbors in need on the Virginia Peninsula.

When every sector of our community is connected and engaged cooperatively, the Virginia Peninsula will be a thriving community for all people now and in the future.

When every organization working to serve our community is supported by a network of partnerships, our capacity to achieve our respective missions expands beyond measure.

When every person in our community, can care for themselves and their family, and lend a hand to their neighbor, our ability to give help and hope becomes infinite.

We envision a community in which every person, no matter their income, can take care of themselves, their family, and lend a hand to their neighbor.  With your help, this vision can come to life and our ability to provide help and hope to ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) will be infinite.

Who We Are

United Way of the Virginia Peninsula (UWVP) brings people together from all over our community: government, business, faith groups, other non-profits, and citizens-to identify and tackle the most serious problems. We build partnerships with other funders, municipalities, and community organizations as well, because it takes the whole community to create change.

UWVP serves the cities of Hampton, Newport News and Poquoson, Williamsburg and the counties of Gloucester, Mathews, York, and James City County.

People usually think of United Way as a fundraising organization—but that's just part of what we do. Our years of experience tells us the best way to help the most people is to focus on the root causes of our community's most critical issues. So we not only develop resources, we invest them in programs and services that address those issues.

Most importantly, United Way gets results. United Way makes sure the agencies we fund are getting the results our community needs. Through a system that measures and reviews results, United Way can track progress and ensure our donors that their money is used efficiently and effectively.
