Special Olympics Virginia Beach

Special Olympics is a year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.  By using sport as a vehicle for social change, Special Olympics Virginia strives to create opportunities for meaningful interaction and self discovery for everyone. The organization's goal is to open the heart and mind of every Virginian to the value and ability of persons with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Virginia Inc. is the state program of Special Olympics Incorporated.

We love our athletes and are so excited to be expanding our offerings again this year! The Special Olympics oath says, "Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt!" We must be continue to be brave and work hard as we can train and compete in all sports this year!

There are more than 400 Special Olympic athletes in Virginia Beach who train and compete in: Bocce, Bowling, Flag Football, Golf, Pickleball, Power Lifting, Roller Skating, Soccer, Softball, Speed Skating, Swimming, Tennis, Track and field, and Volleyball. Athletes are then eligible to compete at local, state, national, and international events. These activities provide physical exercise, time for socialization and the opportunity to improve self confidence. All coaches and support staff are volunteers who dedicate countless hours to work with these amazing athletes.
