Seton Youth Services/ Seton Youth Shelters

A nonprofit organization

Because at 4:03 a.m.—or any other time—the streets are no place for a child alone, Seton made a promise to the youth of southeastern Virginia in 1985. We promised to shelter, counsel, and support runaway, homeless, trafficked, and at-risk girls and boys. We promised to help youth in crisis at home, school, and on the streets. Why? We know that just three days on the streets dramatically increases children's victimization by sex traffickers and other predators. We know that one in five 5 victims of human trafficking are children, forced into prostitution, begging, child pornography and child labor.

Each year, more sex-trafficked children are entering Seton’s shelters. Our Outreach Response Team travels to youth in crisis 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, bringing them to the safety of our Girls’ and Boys’ houses. So far this year, we have answered more than 800 crisis hotline calls, and brought 55 boys and girls from abuse, conflict, neglect, and the streets, to our Boys’ House and our Girls’ House. We provided them 550 nights of homelike shelter, counseling, support, and case management. And, we’ve mentored 54 children ages 4-18 absent a parent through loss or incarceration through our Mentoring Program. Our critical, unduplicated programs have served 4,900 youth since last July—always free of charge. And, we reunited more than 94% of youth served in our shelters with their families.

Seton has served more than 360,000 youth since 1985. More children need us, yet daily operating funds and outdated infrastructure challenge our crisis response and staffing levels to keep our shelters open and youth safe from abuse, trafficking, and the streets. You can help. Please donate today so that we can keep our promise to have our shelter doors open, our crisis response vans running, and our mentoring program thriving, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, whenever the youth of our region need us the most.
