Hampton-Newport News Achievement FoundationThe Hampton-Newport News Achievement Foundation was established by the vision of the Hampton-Newport News VA Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. to support its charitable programs. The Foundation supports vital programs that provide scholarships to deserving high school seniors and essential food baskets to families in need. Our most impactful collaboration is with the Hampton-Newport News Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., who run the transformative Kappa League Guide Right Program and Kappa Athletic Association.

Kappa League profoundly impact the lives of youth in our community like Jaylen grew up the middle of five, navigating life with a single mom. He was just a child, but you know he had responsibilities beyond his years. At six, he started playing football for the Kappa Cardinals Athletic Association. After a few years, he stepped away from the game and started helping at the concession stand where he met some of his first male role models.

From ages twelve through high school graduation, Jaylen participated in Kappa League, a leadership program for young men, that provided him with male role models, friendships, and guidance that fostered an understanding of himself and his potential.

Jaylen went on to earn an associate in culinary arts and a bachelor’s in food service management. Now, he's not just cooking; he's leading. As the head chef at The Depeaux Bar and Grill in Independence, LA, he's using the skills he developed, the lessons he learned, and the confidence he gained on his journey.

Jaylen story is an example of the impact that programs like the Kappa Athletic Association and Kappa League have on young men our community. Jaylen says his mentors taught him what it means to be a man. These programs filled a void and set him on a path to success, not just in his career, but as a man.

The charitable programs that the Foundation supports are about providing mentors and experiences that can shape a life. That's why the work this foundation does is so vital. Join us in this mission.
