$226,700 raised by 764 donors

On Tuesday, May 6, The Heritage Humane Society is inviting the community to join in Give Local 757, Hampton Roads’ biggest 24-hour day of giving, to help provide a much-needed update for the shelter’s hardworking transport fleet.
HHS has relied on two donated 2002 transport vehicles to carry homeless pets to veterinary appointments, adoption events and partner shelters across Virginia. These vehicles have served the shelter’s pets well, thanks to the graciousness of past community supporters. Now, after many years of dependable service, these vehicles have reached the end of their lifespan. It’s time for a reliable, modern upgrade to continue safely supporting the shelter’s growing mission to join the Rescue Wagon 1.0 on the road.
The shelter’s goal is to raise $54,000 on May 6 to fund Rescue Wagon 2.0, a climate-controlled pet transport vehicle designed with today’s safety standards in mind. Every donation of $10 or more will be put into immediate action, and because we have $20,000 in gift match support, your donation will go twice as far.

Who We Are

Heritage Humane Society is a local, independent, open-admission shelter that receives more than 93% of its funding through private donations, and receives no funding from the Humane Society of the United States or the ASPCA. By keeping donations local, you help homeless pets in our community find their way safely to new homes. Our mission is to work as compassionate stewards of companion animals that are in transition from stray/surrender to forever homes. Heritage Humane Society will also educate the public about humane animal care and treatment, advocate animal welfare, and provide affordable adoption and spay/neuter information to measurably reduce overpopulation of unwanted companion animals.
