The Norfolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.—originally chartered as Mu Sigma—holds the distinction of being the first chapter of Delta Sigma Theta established in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Founded in September 1929, Mu Sigma was renamed Norfolk Alumnae Chapter in the early 1940s.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on Christian principles on January 13, 1913, by 22 visionary young African American women on the campus of Howard University. Since its founding, the Sorority has distinguished itself as a public service organization committed to confronting the challenges facing African Americans and, by extension, all communities. Over the decades, Delta Sigma Theta has developed a wide range of programs addressing education, health, international development, and the strengthening of the African American family.

In alignment with this legacy, the Norfolk Alumnae Chapter continues to advance meaningful, community-centered programming guided by the Sorority’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust:
