For sixteen (16) years, the Greater Williamsburg Outreach Mission (GWOM) has worked with local churches, civic organizations, and service providers to seek innovative ways to help those living with food insecurity or suffering from homelessness.

None of the work we do would be possible without you!  We are thankful for every dollar, and we ask for your continued support now.  Please know that GWOM is an all-volunteer organization, which means that 95% of all contributions go to help those in need.  So what has your past support helped us do?

Ask RH. She is a recent beneficiary of our  Wheels to Work program. The program, designed to provide funding for critical car repairs, recently helped RH. She wrote a heartfelt note of thanks for the funding she received that in part read:

“Your support has truly made a difference in my life. Because of you, I now have the opportunity to move forward, stay on track, and work toward my goals. I'm so grateful for your kindness and willingness to help—it means more than words can express. Thank you for believing in me and giving me a chance to be successful.”

When we developed Wheels to Work, it was our hope that with help from several partners AND YOU this project would increase the success for those who are gainfully employed, by helping to repair vehicles needed to provide reliable transportation to work. We were right! And, with your help we have now assisted sixteen (16) local residents with car repairs totaling twelve thousand dollars ($12,000). And, we currently have two applications for assistance in the pipeline. We believe that this is a positive and enduring way to reduce homelessness.

It is GWOM’s mission to analyze a problem, incubate and finance workable solutions, then find a home for the program within our community. Last year, GWOM transitioned its Crock Pot Meal Program, that serves 22 families living in in area motels, to St Martin’s Episcopal Church and Bruton Parish. The new leadership and their faithful community of volunteers have plans to continue to nurture and grow this program.

Each summer, GWOM partners with Williamsburg area Meals on Wheels in the Summer Meals for Kids feeding program. This program will, throughout the summer break, prepare and deliver over 300 lunches each weekday. These meals will replace lunches many children depend on receiving from school throughout the academic year.

GWOM once again facilitated its annual Heart for the Hungry initiative that supports area non-profits who work hard every day to feed the food insecure members of our community. Each February, GWOM pays a dollar a pound for all food donated to local food pantries at FISH, Inc., Williamsburg House of Mercy, Grove Christian Outreach Center and others who depend on community donations to keep their pantries stocked.  Heart for the Hungry awards up to $1000 to each of these non-profits so that they might purchase additional food. This year, GWOM awarded $5000 to local food banks via this program.

As always, we are so very grateful for the important role you play in all of the good things happening through GWOM.

Thank you!
