FirstSpark

FirstSpark is a nonprofit that shapes the future of child care and development. Beyond the training and support programs we provide, we are a true "systems builder"—bringing together policymakers, community leaders, caregivers, parents, and educators through our role as a lead organization in the state's Ready Regions network.

FirstSpark also serves as:

• An expert providing on-the-ground support and training for both parents and educators

• A navigator facilitating access to quality early education for all children in our region from birth to age 5.

• A champion making sure all parties that shoulder the responsibility of nurturing tomorrow's citizens get the emotional support they need today.

Who We Are

Smart Beginnings Virginia Peninsula (SBVP) is making early childhood a priority! We do this because the early years are learning years. What we do today sets the foundation for each child’s healthy development and makes all the difference in their lives. When children are born healthy, receive quality care and education, and families have the tools needed to fulfill the role of their child’s first teacher, then all children in our community will be ready for school and ready for life.

We know that when we focus on the early years – the foundation - this positively impacts a child’s entire future. We are committed to working with community partners such as you who believe in making long-term changes in child well-being. Additionally, the highest rate of economic return comes from the earliest investments. For every $1 invested in Early Childhood programming (prenatal to age 5), $13 is saved in tax dollars. Not only would your gift be a sound investment, it would allow us to continue to positively impact and improve the lives of young children for years to come.
