Delta Research and Education Foundation (DREF) and Denbigh Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated

In affiliation with the DREF, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, our mission is to support the charitable, cultural, educational, and social projects of the Denbigh Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. We accomplish this by securing and distributing charitable contributions through fundraising events, campaigns, and in-kind donations. Because of generous donations and support, we are humbled and have been able to support the health, happiness, and education goals of our youth and community members. 

Our chapter established a donor-restricted fund with DREF in 2016 to ensure the sustainability of our educational, charitable, and social programs. Your support directly fuels our ability to serve and uplift those in need.

Our Commitment to Community Impact

Because of generous supporters like you, we have empowered young scholars, supported families in need, and created programs that foster education, wellness, and economic development.

  • College Scholarships – Awarding financial assistance to deserving high school seniors pursuing higher education.
  • Youth Mentorship & Development Programs
    • Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy (Girls 11-14): Preparing young girls for leadership in STEM and beyond.
    • Dr. Jeanne L. Noble Delta GEMS (Girls 14-18): Providing tools for self-confidence, college readiness, and leadership development.
    • EMBODI (Boys 13-17): Empowering young men to excel academically, socially, and professionally.
    • Jabberwock Debutante Cotillion: A scholarship and leadership development program for young women.
  • Community Programs, including
    • Maternal Health Forum: Advocating for Black maternal health by fostering education, support, and collective action to improve health outcomes.
    • Adopt-A-Spot: Promoting community pride and environmental stewardship by organizing regular clean-ups to keep Denbigh beautiful.
    • Programs to fight food insecurity.
    • Community Resource Fair: Connecting individuals with essential services, from healthcare to financial literacy.
    • Support for Local Food Banks & Shelters: Partnering with organizations to combat food insecurity and homelessness.
    • Health & Wellness Initiatives: Raising awareness and support for causes such as World AIDS Day, Relay for Life, and the St. Jude Walk/Run.

In affiliation with the Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF), our mission is to support Denbigh Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority with charitable, cultural, educational, and social projects. This is accomplished by securing and distributing charitable contributions through fundraising events and campaigns, in-kind donations, grants and scholarship funds.

More About Us
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University, the Sorority is currently a sisterhood of more than 200,000 predominately Black college educated women.

The Denbigh Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on December 21, 1997. Our chapter was formed primarily by the unique demographic expansion of the city of Newport News, Virginia. Denbigh, the area of Newport News (west of Oyster Point Road) formerly known as Warwick County, was comprised of a high concentration of minority (34% African Americans) and disadvantaged persons. The area lacked many of the physical and human resources necessary to support the low income, disadvantaged, and under-served communities...
