"Sails Up for the 2026 Sailing Season"

By making a gift during our Give Local 757! campaign,
you will join us in honoring those challenged by cancer in our community.

Your support of the 2026 Sailing Season will provide meaningful relief through the experience of a private sailing excursion for the Nominee and their five guests - at no cost! Sail Beyond Cancer® Virginia provides these three-hour mission sails aboard their fleet vessel, s/v Solace, on the York River, as well as aboard private vessels across the lower Chesapeake Bay.

Honoring those challenged by cancer by harnessing the healing powers of wind, water, and sail

Our mission sails offer meaningful experiences of relief from the challenges of cancer through two types of sailing excursions:

  • RESPITE SAILS
Anyone currently in treatment for, or living with, cancer is eligible to be nominated for a respite sail - any age, any diagnosis. Our Nominees are able to invite five guests to join them in this opportunity to rebuild courage and make lasting memories.
  • MEMORIAL SAILS
Designed to let those who have lost a loved one to cancer know they are not alone in the journey. Memorial sails offer individuals the time and space to celebrate loved ones lost to cancer in the past three years.

These special sailing excursions create opportunities for those challenged by cancer to rebuild courage and make lasting memories. Our sails bring people together to help ease the stresses, fears, and unknowns that cancer brings to an entire family.

Volunteers are the heart of our mission, and we have sailors and landlubbers alike donating their time and talents to make a true impact - One Sail at a Time!

  • ON BOARD CREW
Each mission sail has a crew of three volunteers - Captain, First Mate & Ambassador - that create an uplifting atmosphere on board, allowing the Nominees and their loved ones to leave their cares and worries at the dock.
  • SHORE TEAM
No sailing skills? No worries! Behind every mission sail is a team of Nominee schedulers, crew coordinators, outreach & event supporters, and fundraising mavens, just to name a few. Our Vessel Maintenance Team ensures that the fleet is mission ready -- mechanically sound, clean and stocked!
  • PRIVATE BOAT PARTNERS
Boat owners use their own vessel to host SBC Virginia mission sails which increases our mission sail capacity, as well as eases travel challenges for our guests by diversifying departure ports.

As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Sail Beyond Cancer® Virginia relies on the generous support of individual donors, family foundations and corporate grants to support our mission. Local companies can also show their support through one of our Sailing Season Sponsorship Opportunities.

Your donation offers the gift of time away from the everyday challenges of cancer
and gives time with loved ones out in the healing elements of wind, water, and sail.
