Intentional Innovation Foundation Inc

A nonprofit organization

Intentional Innovation Foundation (IIF) is a Newport News, Virginia nonprofit public charity which helps young people discover a passion and career in science, technology, science, and engineering (STEM). Our award-winning and volunteer-run programs, open to all students grades 8-12, provide an effective framework for teaming up students with technical professionals to co-investigate challenging problems in robotics, culminating in a thrilling competition. From our 2,400 sqft Peninsula STEM Gym in central Newport News, we deliver publicly-accessible programs that promote hands-on learning, foster collaboration, and nurture the next generation of innovators and communicators.

Our programs include:

  • Two flagship FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) teams: the NASA Knights (Team 122, Hampton VA) and Triple Helix Robotics (Team 2363, Newport News VA), each open to high school students from across the region. These teams are both designated as “house teams” of NASA Langley Research Center and benefit from mentorship by NASA employees.
  • The Peninsula STEM Gym, a shared practice facility for youth STEM teams
  • A popular annual off-season FRC tournament of over 30 teams from around the region
  • Mentorship and fiscal sponsorship of additional local STEM competition teams
