"No one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark."  --Warsan Shire, Kenya, 1988.

UNHCR estimates there are 42.5 million refugees globally, and an estimated 117 million internally displaced persons (IDPs). Hampton Roads Refugee Relief (HR3) is the only non-profit organization with a focus solely on refugees on the Peninsula and in Hampton Roads. HR3 helps build stronger, more inclusive communities by offering the refugee community:

  • English Language Classes and Tutoring
  • Health Screenings
  • Educational Support and Tutoring
  • Citizenship Test Preparation
  • Clothing and Household Goods
  • Education Grants
  • Emergency Rental and Mortgage Relief

Starting over in a new country where you don't speak the language and don't know anybody is scary and overwhelming.  Your support helps newcomers integrate and thrive in their new home and can help them feel welcome and safe.
