Nearly 48 years ago, a promise took root in Hampton Roads: that no family should have to walk through a child's life-threatening illness alone. That spirit of love and courage continues today through Edmarc - neighbors lifting neighbors, hope growing from hardship, and compassion meeting families where they need it most: at home.

Edmarc provides pediatric hospice and palliative support through an interdisciplinary team — skilled nursing, social work, bereavement support, volunteers, and perinatal hospice support for families who have learned their baby will be born with a life‑threatening condition. Our nurses provide physician‑directed care, pain management, teaching, and 24/7 support. Our social workers provide counseling and resource coordination, help families navigate anticipatory grief, support birth planning and legacy‑building, and remain with families through bereavement when a baby dies.

And our volunteers are a powerful extension of that care — delivering groceries, preparing meals, helping with sibling childcare, doing yard work, making anniversary and birthday cards, and showing up as steady, compassionate “family friends” when support is needed most.

Here’s the truth: Edmarc operates on a charity model. Families never pay for anything provided by Edmarc — they never receive a bill. And because less than 10% of our funding comes from reimbursement, the majority of what makes this care possible is community generosity — donors, grants, fundraisers, and local partners who believe children and families deserve comfort, dignity, and love.
