About Children’s Dance Theatre, Inc. (Music in Motion Dance Company)

Children’s Dance Theatre, Inc. is the nonprofit arm of Music in Motion Dance Studio, based in the Little Neck / Kings Grant area of Virginia Beach. Through our Dance Company program, we provide meaningful performance, leadership, and educational opportunities for young dancers ages 7 and up, all while using the power of dance to serve and uplift our community.

Our Dance Company includes teams who train year-round and perform throughout Hampton Roads. In addition to competitions and showcases, our dancers regularly give back through community performances at nursing homes, local events, and charitable fundraisers. These experiences help our students grow not only as artists, but as compassionate, confident young leaders.

At the heart of our nonprofit work is a commitment to access. Dance should never be out of reach for a child with passion and potential simply because of financial barriers.

Our Mission & Why Your Support Matters

That’s why we’ve created two meaningful programs to expand access to dance:

• The Music in Motion Sponsorship Program and
• The Darlene Davenport Dance Legacy Scholarship

Together, these initiatives help remove financial obstacles and ensure that children who are dedicated to dance can continue training, performing, and growing, regardless of their family’s financial situation.

The Darlene Davenport Dance Legacy Scholarship was created to honor a legacy of generosity, mentorship, and deep love for the arts. This scholarship provides financial assistance to students who demonstrate commitment, talent, and a strong desire to grow through dance, but who may not otherwise have the resources to participate.

Each year, donor support allows us to award scholarships that cover tuition, training, and participation costs for dancers who might otherwise be unable to continue. These opportunities don’t just impact dance training — they build confidence, discipline, belonging, and lifelong skills.

Our Give 757 Campaign Goal

Through this Give 757 campaign, our goal is to grow our scholarship fund so we can serve more children across Virginia Beach, especially those in and around the Little Neck and Kings Grant communities.
