Alliance Française of Hampton Roads

Let's support our Alliance for our one annual fundraising event-GiveLocal757-which is organized by and for the local community.

Together let's contribute online to assist our organization in bringing a little bit of France to the Hampton Roads community. Please share this opportunity with your friends on social media.

Any amount helps! Merci beaucoup."

The deep bond between France and the United States was born here in Hampton Roads. In 1781 Lafayette was at Yorktown and Admiral de Grasse and his fleet were on our coast. In 1819, French engineer Bernard was here to design the fortress at Fort Monroe, a military installation that served the nation's defense for nearly 200 years and whose beautiful architecture has transformed it into a National Park. In 1917 French pilot instructors trained their American allies at Fort Monroe. And today, France provides the largest contingent at NATO's Allied Command Transformation headquarters in Norfolk.

We want to maintain and build these rich traditions and bonds here in Hampton Roads. Your board and fellow members have been hard at work with the mission of Alliance Française. We are growing in leaps and bounds, but we need your help to continue to grow. We are asking for your contribution during the Give Local 757 fundraising event on May 8th. Your contribution will assist us in advertising our French language classes and continuing to build our growing network of sponsors and local partners. Our revenue is generated by enrollment in our classes, but we need your help now to boost our efforts in making Alliance Française the "go-to" organization for educators, for the military, and others who want to know more about the francophone world.

Our programs include:
Low-cost French classes for all ages
Pedagogical support for K-12 French teachers in the public schools
Free monthly French conversation groups throughout Hampton Roads
Annual speaking competition for area High School French students
Public cultural events (Bastille Day, Beaujolais Nouveau, Mardi Gras, Soirée Belge, Fête de la Musique) that add international flavor to the local calendar.
We offer programming to support awareness of the larger French-speaking world, especially former French colonies in North America and Africa.
We often collaborate with other Hampton Roads nonprofits to provide cultural and educational programming; our partners have included the Chrysler Museum, Old Dominion University, and Virginia Wesleyan College.

Our all-volunteer organization donates thousands of hours annually to foster international understanding and to provide opportunities and support for Franco-American friendship.
