Empowering Lives Through Literacy

For more than 50 years, Literacy for Life has helped adults across the Virginia Peninsula gain the skills they need to succeed at work, support their families, and fully participate in their communities. Through one-on-one tutoring and small group instruction, we provide personalized support in basic literacy, English language learning, digital skills, health and financial literacy, and workforce preparation.

Our learners come from diverse backgrounds, each with unique goals that include securing a better job, earning a certification, gaining independence, or becoming a U.S. citizen. No matter where they begin, we meet them where they are and help them move forward with confidence.

Serving Greater Williamsburg, Newport News, and Hampton, Literacy for Life is the only community-based adult literacy organization in the region.
